GM Recalls 944,000 US And Overseas Vehicles

Law360, New York (August 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- General Motors Corp. announced a recall of 944,000 vehicles on Friday due to a windshield wiper malfunction that could potentially lead to fire, according to safety regulators.

The company has said it will repair the affected sport utility vehicles, trucks and sedans for vehicle owners free of charge.

The defect arises from a potential short circuit in the heating mechanism for windshield washer fluid. The malfunction may cause an odor or lead to smoke or fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
