WaMu Hit With Patent Suit Over Check-Imaging

Law360, New York (September 19, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- DataTreasury Corp. has targeted Washington Mutual Inc. in its latest patent suit accusing financial institutions of infringing patents for check-imaging technology.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accuses Washington Mutual and its subsidiary, Washington Mutual Bank, of infringing U.S. Patent Numbers 5,910,988 and 6,032,137, known as the Ballard patents, which were issued in 1999 and 2000 for image capture, centralized processing and electronic storage of document and check information.
