Rhode Island Wins One In Emissions Rules Battle

Law360, New York (November 25, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal judge in Rhode Island has tossed an attempt by automakers to block the state's efforts to impose more stringent vehicle emissions standards.

Judge Ernest C. Torres of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island on Tuesday dismissed claims brought by Chrysler LLC, General Motors Corp. and an auto industry trade group, saying that the matter has already been dealt with in nearly identical cases the plaintiffs filed in Vermont and California, and that the automakers are now blocked from relitigating it....
