Uber's Spy Hire Shows Ethical Blowback For Lawyers

Judge Jed Rakoff called it a “sad day” when Uber hired an unlicensed investigator to dig up dirt on a plaintiff suing the ride-hailing company. Sadder still, he said, because the spy resorted to lies and other misconduct. The incident, which saw Uber sanctioned and scolded by the judge, is a lesson for companies and their attorneys to keep investigators on a tight leash or risk losing credibility with the court.
