Sierra, NRDC Target Weakened Idaho 'Roadless Rule'

Law360, New York (January 20, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- A coalition of environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council, has launched a suit to prevent the U.S. Forest Service from opening hundreds of thousands of acres of Idaho wilderness to construction, mining and logging activities.

The complaint, lodged Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, claims the so-called Idaho Roadless Rule, which authorizes the development of the state’s remote backcountry, runs afoul of several environmental laws and ought to be set aside.
