Science Must Guide Decisions: New EPA Head

Law360, New York (January 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a memo to her new employees, the recently confirmed head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Friday that the agency won't “disguise policy decisions as scientific findings.”

“Science must be the backbone for EPA programs,” said Lisa Jackson, the agency's new administrator and a Princeton-educated chemical engineer. “When scientific judgments are suppressed, misrepresented, or distorted by political agendas, Americans can lose faith in their government to provide strong public health and environmental protection.”
