Transocean Wins Offshore Drilling Patent Case

Law360, New York (September 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Transocean Inc., a Cayman Islands-based offshore drilling contractor, has won a $3.6 million jury verdict in a patent infringement case against GlobalSantaFe Corp. over dual activity patents on structures in offshore rigs.

The jury also found that GlobalSantaFe willfully infringed the patents, which means the court could increase the award.

GlobalSantaFe said it expects Transocean to request the court to issue an injunction preventing GSF from using its drilling equipment with the infringed patent product.
