Katrina Insurance Claims Pile Up

Law360, New York (September 15, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Despite a recent extension of the deadline for property owners to sue their insurance companies over damages related to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, a record number of such actions have been filed in the last month in Gulf Coast courts.

In St. Bernard Parish, one of the hardest hit areas, the number of insurance-related lawsuits reached 1,171 in August alone, Lena Nunez, the chief deputy clerk of the parish courthouse, told the Times-Picayune on Friday.
