Prudential Targets Goldman, Others Over $796M In MBS

Law360, New York (September 07, 2012, 8:00 PM ET) -- The Prudential Insurance Co. of America has filed separate lawsuits in New Jersey accusing Goldman Sachs & Co., RBS Financial Products Inc. and Nomura Securities International Inc. of fraudulently selling the company a total of $796 million in mortgage-backed securities.

In its most recent complaint filed Aug. 27 in Essex County Superior Court, Prudential claims Goldman made numerous misrepresentations about the credit worthiness of underlying mortgage loans in the securities, which Goldman itself allegedly deemed "junk," "dogs," "crap" and "lemons."
