Law360, New York (October 20, 2009, 4:22 PM ET) -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has conformed to the terms of a legal settlement by proposing 4,649 acres of critical habitat for an endangered shrew species — an increase of 55 times over a 2005 designation by the Bush administration.
The Buena Vista Lake shrew, a mammal that weighs less than .25 ounces and is only 5 inches long, has already lost more than 95 percent of its historic habitat in the southern San Joaquin Valley in California, according to FWS.
