Judge Tosses Occidental From MTBE Suits

Law360, New York (September 29, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Occidental Chemical Corp. has been dismissed from a score of lawsuits brought by U.S. city environmental officials as part of the multidistrict litigation over carcinogenic methyl tertiary-butyl ether.

A source said Monday Occidental, otherwise known as OxyChem, had been an improper party to the long-running dispute in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which accuses a group of gasoline refiners of contaminating U.S. waters with MTBE.
