Law360, New York (February 21, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal judge in California has granted class action status to the employees of 14 Papa John’s Pizza restaurants, who were allegedly deprived of meal breaks, rest periods and overtime pay.
In his order, Judge Gary Allen Feess of the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles rejected the entreaties of PJ United Inc.—the owner of the 14 restaurants—which argued that individual issues predominated over common issues, that one of the sub-classes failed the numerosity test and that the lead plaintiffs were not adequate class representatives....
