Law360, New York (May 10, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A group of Peruvians have launched a proposed class action against Occidental Petroleum Corp., claiming the oil giant knowingly leaked toxic waste into the environment.
Over the thirty years that Oxy drilled in Northern Peru’s Amazon, which is home to indigenous Achuar people, the company discharged millions of gallons of toxins, including heavy metals, sulfur dioxide, hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide, the plaintiffs allege.
