Law360, New York (August 21, 2012, 3:57 PM ET) -- A New York federal judge on Monday temporarily prevented New York's Nassau County from putting into place part of a $40 million cost-saving measure that would give the county power to modify contracts with public employees, finding it might restrict workers' constitutional rights.
U.S. District Judge Arthur D. Spatt issued a preliminary injunction blocking portions of a law passed by Nassau's Legislature that would allow the county to freeze public employees' wages, call for furloughs and reduce the government's contribution to employee benefit programs.
