Australia Looks To Reauthorize Qantas, BA Pact

Law360, New York (February 04, 2010, 12:28 PM ET) -- The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has tentatively decided to let Qantas Airways Ltd. and British Airways PLC continue their 14-year-old joint service agreement for another five years, saying that it isn't likely to harm competition.

In a draft determination released Thursday, the commission said it still believed the benefits of the joint service agreement outweighed any possible harms, though it said that there may have been “some decline in the level of the public benefits delivered by the [joint service agreement] since the ACCC’s consideration...
