EU Seeks $12B In Sanctions From US Over Boeing Subsidies

Law360, New York (September 27, 2012, 2:47 PM ET) -- The European Union on Thursday asked the World Trade Organization for permission to hit the U.S. with $12 billion in annual trade sanctions, claiming the U.S. has not made good on promises to remove its illegal subsidies of plane-maker Boeing Co.

According to a statement from the European Commission, the requested countermeasures are based on an estimate of damages that the EU has incurred due to “unfair and biased” competition from the U.S. industry.
