Indies Sound Antitrust Alarm Over MySpace Music

Law360, New York (September 22, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- As MySpace Inc. gears up to partner with three record giants to form MySpace Music, an independent music group has asked the European Commission to probe anti-competitive behavior in the online music market.

Helen Smith, who chairs IMPALA, the Brussels-based independent music trade group that contacted the EC, said the online music market is showing signs of being “dysfunctional.”

“We feel a successful and inclusive online market in which independent artists can also participate and be paid is essential,” Smith said, in an e-mail message....
