Senate Panel OKs Same-Sex Partner Benefits

Law360, New York (December 16, 2009, 4:43 PM ET) -- A U.S. Senate committee passed a bill Wednesday that would extend full benefits to federal employees' same-sex domestic partners, less than a month after a similar bill passed a committee in the House of Representatives.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs voted 8-1 to pass S. 1102, known as the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act of 2009, which would provide same-sex domestic partners of federal employees the same benefits currently enjoyed by spouses.
