Shell, Conoco Sued Again Over Ill. Carcinogen Releases

Law360, New York (April 18, 2012, 1:51 PM ET) -- Shell Oil Co. and ConocoPhillips were rocked Monday with another suit over the alleged release of benzene and other contaminants from a refinery in a southern Illinois village, this time by proposed classes of property owners.

Property owners in the village of Roxana, Ill., located 20 miles northeast of St. Louis, are accusing Shell, Conoco, a Conoco-Cenovus Energy Inc. joint venture and their affiliates of contaminating the groundwater, surface water, soil and air on and around their land through releases from the Wood River oil refinery....
