Alpha Unit Appeals Discharge Limits On Pa. Coal Permit

Law360, Philadelphia (September 21, 2012, 7:45 PM ET) -- Alpha Natural Resources unit Amfire Mining Co. filed an appeal Wednesday challenging monitoring requirements and discharge limits imposed by state environmental regulators on two permits for a Western Pennsylvania coal refuse disposal site.

In a notice filed with the Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board, Amfire argued the conditions placed on the company’s permit, which established maximum outflow of treated coal waste, were illegal and arrived at without reason.
