Texas Grid Operator Could Pay Luminant Plants Not To Idle

Law360, New York (September 27, 2012, 5:22 PM ET) -- Texas’ grid operator said Wednesday it was mulling whether to pay Luminant Generation Co. LLC to keep running two units at a coal-fired power plant the company planned to idle for the winter, saying they might be needed to ensure grid reliability.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas issued a notice saying it might enter into a reliability must-run agreement with Luminant to maintain service at units 1 and 2 of the Monticello plant in east Texas, pending a final reliability analysis.
