DOI Approves Solar Development Fast-Track Plan

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 5:21 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior greenlighted a plan Friday to open 285,000 acres of public land in western states for utility-scale solar energy development — a move industry groups say raises hopes that companies will avoid permitting problems that have held up projects in the past.

The plan creates 17 development zones in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah that the agency has judged to be ideal for solar energy generation and where projects would have easy access to transmission lines.
