Law360, New York (May 11, 2012, 1:37 PM ET) -- An e-discovery review usually requires significant manpower and a certain level of expertise to be done properly. Few organizations have sufficient resources with the experience necessary to effectively perform reviews in-house.

On the other hand, when outside counsel conducts the entire review, it can be very expensive. So many in-house legal departments turn to litigation support and discovery management providers as an alternative for first pass document review, leaving a more limited second pass review for outside counsel to handle.
