Smith & Nephew Wins $4.7M In Arthrex Patent Spat

Law360, New York (February 17, 2010, 2:52 PM ET) -- A federal jury has awarded $4.7 million to Smith & Nephew PLC in its infringement suit against Arthrex Inc. over a patent for a button used to hold tissues in place for knee reconstruction surgery.

In a verdict handed down Friday, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found that Arthrex's RetroButton had directly infringed a patent held by Smith & Nephew, U.S. Patent Number 5,645,588.
