Anheuser-Busch Handed Setback In Trademark Fight

Law360, New York (April 20, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc. has lost the latest battle in its century-long trademark war with Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar NP, with the European Union’s trademark office rejecting its request to use the “Budweiser” name throughout Europe.

In a decision that was reached in March and announced Thursday, a board of appeal for the EU’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market said Budvar had the right to the international trademark “Budweiser.”
