Law360, New York (April 22, 2011, 5:53 PM ET) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced Friday it would delay a new fast-track patent examination process and freeze hiring after it received about $300 million less than requested in the 2011 federal budget.
Under the 2011 budget passed April 15, the agency's spending authority for the coming fiscal year was capped at $2.09 billion, PTO Director David Kappos said Friday, a figure well below the $2.32 billion it had sought, but still more than the nearly $1.9 billion it had in 2010.
