Paramount Snuffs Out British Film Co.'s Copyright Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (October 05, 2011, 5:03 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Monday dismissed Seven Arts Film Entertainment Ltd.’s lawsuit claiming Paramount Pictures Corp. ripped off five of its films, ruling that the British production company waited too long to file its copyright infringement suit.

“The Copyright Act bars claims not brought within three years after the claim has accrued,” U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins said. “Plaintiff’s complaint demonstrates that its claims accrued no later than 2005, and because equitable tolling does not apply, plaintiff’s claims are therefore untimely.”
