Comcast, DirecTV, Others Fight 'Dish Anywhere' Trademark

Law360, New York (September 30, 2013, 5:10 PM ET) -- Nearly every one of Dish Network LLC's major pay-TV rivals asked U.S. trademark officials last week to deny Dish's bid for a trademark on “Dish Anywhere,” saying “anywhere” was a merely descriptive and generic term.

Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable Inc., Cablevision Systems Corp., Cox Communications Inc. and Charter Communications Inc. filed opposition proceedings Sept. 25, asking the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to reject three different applications from Dish for the phrase.
