BlackBerry Maker Details Workaround Plan

Law360, New York (February 09, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Embattled BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has detailed its plan for a technological workaround that would go into effect if a federal judge issues a service-stopping injunction against the company later this month.

The new software, called the BlackBerry Multi-Mode Edition, will begin to ship soon, while current users will have their devices updated remotely, the company said.

Under RIM’s backup plan, the downloaded software would operate as normal, but on a signal from RIM, would switch into workaround mode.
