Alcon Sues Synergetics Over Eye Laser Patent

Law360, New York (October 10, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Alcon Inc., the world's largest eye care company, has accused rival microsurgical device company Synergetics USA Inc. of infringing a patent for a laser device used in ophthalmic surgery.

The suit, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, claims that Synergetic is infringing an Alcon patent for a device that uses an optical fiber to transmit laser light into an eye to be treated.
