AP Prepared To Do Battle Over Obama Image

Law360, New York (February 04, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The Associated Press is claiming the rights to a campaign image of President Obama, saying a Los Angeles street artist stole the idea for his iconic poster from an AP photograph taken years ago.

On Wednesday, the AP revealed that it had approached artist Shepard Fairey over copyright issues surrounding the ubiquitous image, which features Obama bathed in red, white and blue and gazing up at the sky with the word HOPE underneath.
