Law360, New York (November 23, 2009, 5:11 PM ET) -- Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is switching from a lockstep to a merit-based associate compensation system, a change that mimics moves made by several other law firms.
Kristy Weathers, the firm's director of professional development, said Monday that the driving force for the change was client concern with a lockstep system. The switch is also an extension of a career-planning program the firm already had in place.
