New Arbitration Rules Allow For Alternative Appeals

Law360, New York (November 4, 2013, 5:16 PM ET) -- Disputing parties now have the option to appeal arbitration awards within the arbitration process and have awards undergo a high-level review without taking the appeal through the courts, thanks to new rules from the American Arbitration Association that took effect Friday.

The nonprofit AAA said in a statement that courts have traditionally used narrowly defined statutory grounds to set aside an arbitration award, but the AAA's new "optional appellate arbitration rules" provides parties with a standardized and streamlined procedure for pursuing appeals within the arbitration process....
