Law360, New York (July 12, 2012, 7:29 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is creating a genome database for dangerous foodborne bacteria in an effort to cut down the response time for outbreaks from weeks to days, the agency said Thursday.
The FDA is teaming up with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the University of California Davis, and Agilent Technologies Inc. to start the free, public database. They hope to sequence about 100,000 genomes for salmonella, listeria and E. coli and other bacteria over five years.
