Law360, New York (July 27, 2011, 9:38 PM ET) -- Facebook Inc.’s decision not to make its facial recognition feature available to Canadian users could prompt U.S. regulators to crack down on the social network’s controversial technology, privacy advocates say.
Facebook began its global introduction of the feature, which it refers to as “tag suggestions,” in December. The company uses biometric technology to identify individuals’ faces in photos uploaded by Facebook users — a practice consumer and civil rights groups have challenged as an invasion of privacy.
