New Zealand Judge Rules Kim Dotcom Raid Was Illegal

Law360, New York (June 28, 2012, 6:37 PM ET) -- New Zealand's high court ruled Thursday that the police raid on the home of the infamous founder of file-sharing and alleged piracy site Megaupload.com, Kim Dotcom, was "illegal," saying invalid search warrants were not specific enough.

Judge Helen Winkelmann found the warrants used in January to raid Dotcom’s home — which resulted in the seizure of an estimated 150 terabytes of data — were invalid, saying they inaccurately described the offense and furthermore did not provide enough detail.
