URS Settles Minn. Bridge Collapse Suit For $52M

Law360, New York (August 23, 2010, 2:54 PM ET) -- URS Corp. has agreed to pay $52.4 million to victims of the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, settling claims that the engineering firm had missed blatant warning signs that should have prompted the closure of the span before it fell into the Mississippi River in August 2007.

The settlement, announced Monday, resolves most of the case before Hennepin County District Court Judge Deborah Hedlund and short-circuits the plaintiffs' pending motion to allow punitive damages against URS.
