Judge Grants Computer Associates Injunction In Case That Tests Open Source Licensing

Law360, New York (August 12, 2004, 12:00 AM ET) -- In one of the first cases to interpret the General Public License for open source software, Computer Associates has won a motion for a preliminary injunction in its copyright and trade-secret case against Quest Software.

On August 3, Judge James B. Moran of U.S. District Court for Northern District of Illinois granted Computer Associates' motion, enjoining Quest's current and future products containing or derived from Computer Associates's code, according to the company’s counsel, Foley & Lardner LLP.
