Sony Owns ‘King Of The Road,’ Other Songs: 6th Circ.

Law360, New York (February 22, 2012, 5:03 PM ET) -- Sony/ATV Publishing LLC owns the renewal copyrights to the hit “King of the Road” and other songs by country singer Roger Miller, the Sixth Circuit ruled Wednesday, reversing a district court win for Miller's widow and striking down a damages award of almost $1 million.

A three-judge appeals court panel tackled an “interstitial issue of copyright law,” and held that Sony owned the rights at issue — which covered songs that were originally copyrighted in 1964 — as Roger Miller's assignee, even though Miller passed away...
