Judge Kicks Robins Kaplan Off Best Buy IP Suit

Law360, New York (May 03, 2012, 8:27 PM ET) -- An Illinois federal judge on Thursday disqualified Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi LLP from representing Best Buy Co. Inc. in a suit accusing the retail chain of infringing a patent for a smartphone application that locates nearby stores, while refusing to toss the overall case.

U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber granted Cascades Branding Innovation LLC's request to disqualify Robins Kaplan on the ground that it had learned confidential information during prospective client negotiations with the company that would harm it in the instant suit....
