Monsanto Wins $1B Verdict In DuPont Seed Patent Row

Law360, New York (August 01, 2012, 10:59 PM ET) -- A Missouri federal jury on Wednesday delivered a $1 billion verdict to Monsanto Co., finding that DuPont Co. and its hybrid agricultural seed producing unit DuPont Pioneer had willfully infringed Monsanto's patented Roundup Ready technology for herbicide-resistant seeds.

The ruling marks a spectacular blow after DuPont lost its latest bid Monday to toss Monsanto's claims that it had used Monsanto's Roundup Ready gene with its own Optimum GAT technology to make such herbicide-resistant seeds and to mask issues DuPont was facing with its technology.
