U.S. To Review Chiron's Hepatitis C Patent Deal

Law360, New York (February 15, 2004, 12:00 AM ET) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reviewing a 1990 agreement that assigned California biotech company Chiron Corp. exclusive rights to the discovery of hepatitis C in 1987, according to a published report.

The CDC's inquiry comes amid complaints that Chiron's control over the discovery has delayed research into treatments and vaccines, the Kansas Star reported.

“CDC will continue to review this matter with a number of partners involved in Hepatitis prevention,” the agency told the Kansas Star.
