Sony Faces Class Action Over Burning, Melting TVs

Law360, New York (October 15, 2010, 1:51 PM ET) -- A group of consumers has hit Sony Corp. of America Inc. and subsidiaries with new claims in a putative class action accusing the technology titan of manufacturing a set of high-end televisions that posed fire hazards and contained other safety defects.

In an amended complaint lodged Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, purchasers of nine different Sony rear-projection televisions alleged that overheating caused the chassis and internal parts of the televisions to melt, char and burn through normal use....
