Law360, New York (September 18, 2012, 6:28 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday warned consumers not to use Intestinomicina, a drug marketed as a treatment for diarrhea and gastrointestinal infections, because it contains chloramphenicol, the oral form of which is banned in the U.S.
Intestinomicina, available as an over-the-counter treatment, contains the prescription drug ingredient, chloramphenicol. Oral forms of chloramphenicol were formally withdrawn from the U.S. market in July due to the risk of serious and life-threatening injuries, according to the FDA.
