Murray Co. Units To Pay $1M Over Deadly Mine Collapse

Law360, New York (September 27, 2012, 6:58 PM ET) -- A pair of Murray Energy Corp. units agreed Thursday to pay one of the largest fines in U.S. coal mining history to settle federal allegations that their poor safety controls allowed one of their Utah mines to collapse in 2007 and kill nine people.

Genwal Resources Inc. and Andalex Resources Inc. will pay nearly $1 million in fines to the Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration after accepting penalties for seven federal safety violations related to the Crandall Canyon mine disaster, MSHA said....
