TIG Wants No Part In Smithfield Hog Pollution Suits

Law360, New York (September 22, 2009) -- TIG Insurance Co., formerly known as Transamerica Insurance Co., has asked a federal judge to declare it has no obligation to cover defense costs for a Smithfield Foods Inc. subsidiary accused of allowing odors and manure runoff from hog farms to contaminate neighboring properties.

The insurer filed its response and counterclaim against Premium Standard Farms LLC on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri....
