E.U. Slaps Chemical Cos. With €345M Price-Fixing Fine

Law360, New York (May 31, 2006) -- In a continuing show of force against cartel activity in Europe, the European Commission this week hit four chemical companies—including several repeat offenders—with a whopping collective €344.5 million in fines for fixing prices on acrylic glass, marking the fourth-largest fine levied by the E.U. in such a case.

Between 1997 and 2002, the Commission said that Total/Elf Aquitaine/Arkema, Lucite, ICI and Quinn Barlo agreed, fixed and monitored target prices for acrylic glass and exchanged commercially important and confidential...
