Squawk Box Defendant Gets One Year In Prison

Law360, New York (July 31, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A former broker at Merrill Lynch & Co. was sentenced to a year and a day in prison on Tuesday for allegedly sharing inside information with day-traders through broadcast devices known as “squawk boxes.”

The broker, Timothy O'Connell, was convicted of lying to government investigators and pressuring his assistant to do the same, Reuters reported.
