Law360, New York (April 09, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reached settlements in 182 cases in the first quarter of 2009, marking a surge in enforcement activities, according to a recent report.
That total marks a significant jump from the fourth quarter of 2008, when the SEC reached settlements in 123 cases, and the first quarter of last year, when the SEC reached negotiated deals in 157 cases involving companies and individuals.
