Marshals Refuse To Arrest Surrendering Stanford

Law360, New York (May 01, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- In an unusual turn of events, federal marshals have refused to take alleged fraudster Robert Allen Stanford into custody, pointing to the fact that no warrant has been issued yet for the billionaire banker's arrest.

Stanford, with lawyer Dick DeGuerin by his side, attempted Thursday to surrender himself to authorities in a move calculated to show that he was ready to face charges from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over an alleged $8 billion Ponzi scheme.
